Infection Prevention and Control
This course aims to provide the dental team with the knowledge and skills required to prevent and control the spread of infection in the dental practice. Focusing on the essential quality requirements of HTM 01-05; the Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice on the prevention and control of infections 2014; and the National infection prevention and control manual for England.
On completion delegates will be able to:
- Recognise current regulations and guidance surrounding infection prevention and control.
- Define the term infection, recognise routes of transmission and understand the chain of infection.
- Understand antimicrobial stewardship.
- Demonstrate standard and transmission-based precautions to prevent the spread of infection (including but not limited to: Donning and doffing of level 2 and level 3 PPE; Best practice hand hygiene; Decontamination of clinical and non-clinical environments; Waste management; Sharps safety.).
- Outline key factors in reducing exposure to aerosols.
- Understand how to prevent the spread of legionella infection in a dental practice.
- Outline the role of the infection prevention and control lead.
- Review practice policy, protocols and audits.
