Legionella Awareness

The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the bacteria Legionella pneumophila and to provide practical advice and guidance on controlling the risks from exposure to Legionella in dental water systems.


Learning objectives

On completion delegates will be able to:



  • Outline some basic facts about Legionella and how it is spread.

  • Describe the history of Legionnaires’ disease, its symptoms and those at risk.

  • Identify sources of Legionella in a dental practice.

  • Recognise employer’s legal obligations in controlling the spread of Legionella

  • Identify the key points of a risk assessment and implement suitable control measures.   



This course is part of the Health and Safety training package but can be added on to any session.
